David Younglove
I am an interdisciplinary artist from Boulder Colorado, currently living in Belfast, NI.
A Synthesis between Eastern and Western thought is the foundation from which I work. Being the son of an Iranian immigrant to the USA, my initial motivation was to throw the holistic messages of Persian poetry in the face of the demonization that Middle-Easterners experience.
In much of my recent work, this synthesis is applied towards new explorations of perception. With matters concerning the Anthropocene becoming more and more urgent, it is apparent that singular viewpoints are no longer adequate. By drawing together the fluidity of the Eastern perspective with the analytic capabilities of Western thought I hope to arrive at the possibility of something completely new. And like the masters of Persian poetry such as Omar Khayyam personal narratives are woven in and given equal importance.
Nature itself is perhaps the best guide in the search for these new ways of seeing. Nature is a system which is at once deeply varied and profoundly interconnected. And in this way is my aim to make an art which is holistic, multicultural, and which reaches across the traditionally imagined barriers-divisions between mathematics and poetry, internal and external, physical and immaterial, or between East and West.
