Miwanzo: A Journey of Community Connection & Artistic Expression

At Belfast Print Workshop, we are thrilled to share the heartwarming success story of Miwanzo, aimed at addressing the prevalent issues of isolation and loneliness within the West Belfast community. As an organisation dedicated to fostering artistic expression and community engagement, we were honored to be a part of this transformative initiative.

Working in collaboration with Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, a champion of Irish language and culture, and 1 Nation, supported by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, we embarked on a mission to create a supportive and inclusive space for both newcomers and long-standing members of the community.

With the guidance of Cultúrlann's esteemed associate artist, Emma Berkery, and our own team at Belfast Print Workshop, participants were encouraged to delve into the world of art and printmaking. They explored the power of language, delving into words that held personal significance in their own tongues, and embarked on an enriching journey of learning to express these words in Irish.

The culmination of their efforts is proudly displayed at Cultúrlann, where the vibrant and evocative artwork created during the series of art and print workshops is showcased through captivating vinyl prints and postcards. This public exhibition not only celebrates the participants' creative achievements but also serves as a testament to the strength of community connections fostered through the medium of art.

Witnessing the positive impact of Miwanzo has been nothing short of inspiring. Through their artistic exploration, the participants have not only found a creative outlet but have also forged meaningful connections and a robust support system within the community. It is our sincere hope that this project serves as a beacon of hope and encouragement for all those seeking to combat isolation and foster a sense of belonging within their communities.

At Belfast Print Workshop, we remain dedicated to empowering communities through the transformative power of art and creative expression. We invite you to join us in celebrating the resilience and unity exemplified by the participants of Miwanzo, as they continue to inspire us all with their unwavering spirit and dedication to building a stronger, more connected community.
