Viscosity Monoprinting Weekend Course with Josephine McCormick
- Belfast Print Workshop 30-42 Waring Street Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 2ED United Kingdom (map)
Join BPW tutor Josephine McCormick for an exciting weekend course in Monoprinting. This unique printmaking method utilises the repelling properties of differently viscous coloured inks to produce a one-of-a-kind, multi-coloured monoprint without the risk of colour overlap or muddy tones.
This course will introduce you to the possibilities of monoprinting, combining painting and printmaking techniques to create your own unique designs. Cutting simple stencils, you'll experiment with various mark-making techniques on Perspex surfaces and transfer your images onto paper using a press.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to try something new, this course is sure to inspire. Bring an image of your own, such as a sketch, magazine clipping, or photograph, and transform it into a unique print. All materials are included in the course fee, so you can focus on exploring this exciting process without worrying about supplies.
Josephine learned this magical printmaking technique while undertaking a residency at the Atelier Contrepoint in Paris under the tutelage of the current director, Hector Saunier. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from an experienced printmaker and explore the possibilities of monoprinting.

This full-day workshop introduces participants to creating bold, expressive 2–3 layer hand-drawn screenprints. Working from their own sketches or simple reference images, students will learn how to turn hand-drawn marks into layered artwork ready for screen exposure. We’ll explore beginner-friendly approach to separating drawings into graphic shapes and lines, combining freehand elements with hand-cut stencils to build dynamic compositions. The session covers exposing screens, setting up and using the press, and straightforward registration methods for producing clean multicolour prints. By the end of the day, each participant will create a small edition of their own screenprints on paper.
This beginner-friendly workshop introduces you to the beautiful and historic cyanotype process. Led by artist and printmaker Josephine McCormick, you’ll learn each stage of the technique through demonstrations, hands-on practice, and expert guidance.
Cyanotype is an early photographic process that produces striking blue prints. During the course, you’ll experiment with botanicals, stencils, flat objects, and high-contrast black-and-white photographs to create unique prints. All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own botanicals, lace, flat jewellery, or other objects to personalise your work. We’ll also ask you to send two black-and-white photographic images in advance.
