Retreat to Stone, Stone in Retreat

  • Belfast Print Workshop 30-42 Waring Street Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 2ED United Kingdom (map)

As part of the 45th Anniversary of Belfast Print Workshop, Nollaig will read from her book and give a talk on her art practice and the processes she used to create the artist publication.

'Retreat to Stone, Stone in Retreat' is a publication containing personal texts which resonated with archaeological and industrial sites in Nollaig's rural locality. These places are inhabited by limestone outcrops, hawthorn trees and gorse bushes; the ever-present yet changing characteristics of the land.

The texts present memories of exploring ringforts as a child, digital and real-time experiences of earth works and the material economy of limestone and gorse flower.

These materials occur in the form of screen-printed limestone ink and flocked gorse petal fibres within the publication.
