LISA MURRAY and JOSEPHINE MC CORMICK

Two printmakers investigate the subject of nature through two distinct frames of reference.

McCormick explores the scientific reading of nature through sound spectrograms and algorithms. McCormick reflects on how nature has been re-presented as ‘virtual’ quantitative data in contrast to the real-life beauty of nature.

Murray arranges her still life images to represent psychological spaces in which natural objects take on a symbolic meaning. Insects, wings and leaves are neatly staged into mindscapes, or share the setting with scissors and knots, reflecting the complex order of resolving our inner conflicts.

Both artists share an interest in the experience of nature towards an understanding of the human psyche.
