Etched Linocut with Artist in Residence Scarlett Rebecca – 27th & 28th May 2023
£140.00
Etched linocut is a dynamic printmaking technique that can change the way you approach relief printing. With a caustic soda-based etch, you can create organic and spontaneous recesses in the linoleum block, resulting in a wide range of mark making with tonal variation, which can be combined with carved marks.
In this weekend class, you'll learn the basics of etched linocut and work with resists and direct application of the etch on two blocks. By the end of the weekend, you'll have created a small edition of colourful prints and proofs. The class is suitable for both beginners and those looking to refresh their printmaking skills.
We're delighted to welcome artist-in-residence Scarlett Rebecca to Belfast Print Workshop in May 2023. She'll be leading this class on etched linocut, which offers a different angle on the relief printing process. You'll have the chance to experience Scarlett's work while using our 200-year-old relief presses to print your artwork on archival paper.

This full-day workshop introduces participants to creating bold, expressive 2–3 layer hand-drawn screenprints. Working from their own sketches or simple reference images, students will learn how to turn hand-drawn marks into layered artwork ready for screen exposure. We’ll explore beginner-friendly approach to separating drawings into graphic shapes and lines, combining freehand elements with hand-cut stencils to build dynamic compositions. The session covers exposing screens, setting up and using the press, and straightforward registration methods for producing clean multicolour prints. By the end of the day, each participant will create a small edition of their own screenprints on paper.
This beginner-friendly workshop introduces you to the beautiful and historic cyanotype process. Led by artist and printmaker Josephine McCormick, you’ll learn each stage of the technique through demonstrations, hands-on practice, and expert guidance.
Cyanotype is an early photographic process that produces striking blue prints. During the course, you’ll experiment with botanicals, stencils, flat objects, and high-contrast black-and-white photographs to create unique prints. All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own botanicals, lace, flat jewellery, or other objects to personalise your work. We’ll also ask you to send two black-and-white photographic images in advance.
By the end of the day, you’ll take home a collection of stunning cyanotype prints.
