CMYK Screen Printing
4 week class with Declan Byrne
Screenprinting is a print method employed to transfer ink through a fine stencilled mesh. Using a light-sensitive emulsion, you can create photographic images. This course is aimed towards beginners or for those who wish to expand upon their skills further. In this weekend course you will create a full colour photographic image using cyan, magenta, yellow and black water-based acrylics. The course includes all materials. Perfect for those interested in photography or for creatives looking to gain a new artistic skill.
Popularised in the 1960s by artists such as Andy Warhol, Screenprinting is a print process in which acrylic ink is forced through a stenciled mesh to create a design or an artwork. Photographic, full-colour screenprints are achieved by a simple trick of the eye using only 4 colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black. Participants in this 4 week course will learn how to create 4 layers utilising Photoshop software. These ‘positive’ layers will then be transferred to a screen mesh using a light-sensitive emulsion. Once the screen is made, you will create your own 4 colour screenprint on paper using water-based inks onto art paper. This course is ideally suited to intermediate screenprinters or for those who have attended beginner/introduction level screenprint courses.
