Belfast Print Workshop listed in Top 5 galleries in Northern Ireland
A BIG thank you to Carrie Neely and the Belfast Telegraph for listing Belfast Print Workshop Gallery as one of the Top 5 galleries to visit in the whole of Northern Ireland. We are all absolutely delighted to be listed among such good company and we believe this reflects the quality and diversity of our exhibitions and member's work. The Belfast art scene, particularly within the Cathedral Quarter, is thriving and we are proud to be part of it.
BPW's Outreach & Community Programme included The Lantern Light Project - a new and innovative Intergenerational Art project introducing printmaking techniques to teenagers and older people living in East Belfast. Ashfield Boys' High School and older people from Clamil Independent Housing schemes collaborated to learn new printmaking skills in screenprint, monoprint, linocut and collage and saw the creation of handprinted paper lanterns for Culture Night in addition to a colourful suite of lanterns for display in Belfast City Hall. Building on the success of this, the group then jointly created a series of screenprinted 'Teabots' - a hybrid robot/teapot. Some of these adorable and subversive little hybrids are included in a 2014 Calendar. The project has been made possible by funding from Big Lottery Culture for All, Department of Social Development and by the good work of our artists Lisa Malone, Sarah Crooks and sarah Majury. Thanks to all our participants and partners -Ashfield Boys School, Mullan Mews and Sydenham Court and project coordinator Paula Campbell.
